How do I report a power outage?
If you experience an unplanned power outage and have determined the cause to be outside your household (meaning you've checked your breaker panel, or your neighbors are also out, etc.), please follow these instructions to report it to the City of Osawatomie Electric Department.
If your outage is related to a known emergency, such as a downed power line that presents an immediate danger to the public, or if a transformer or other piece of electric equipment is sparking, smoking, on fire, etc., please call 9-1-1 immediately.
OVERNIGHT
If your outage occurs overnight (between 8:00pm or 8:00am), please call the Osawatomie Police Department's non-emergency line at (913) 755-2101 to report your outage. Dispatch will alert our standby team.
DURING BUSINESS HOURS
If your outage occurs during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm), please call our Utility Office at (913) 755-2146 to alert us to the issue -OR- you may report the outage via TextMyGov:
- Using your cell phone, text "OUTAGE" to (913) 557-8777. Our automatic reporting system will guide you through a brief set of prompts to gather the relevant information and, upon successful completion of all prompts, will generate an automatic report that is routed to our utility team. Our utility team will dispatch our standby staff member(s) to respond to the appropriate facility or address and begin diagnostic work. There is no fee for utilizing this service.
- If necessary, a member of staff may follow-up via phone number or email for additional information. Due to the number of reports received, residents may not receive individual follow-up once the issue is resolved.
AFTER BUSINESS HOURS OR ON WEEKENDS
If your outage occurs after business hours or during a weekend, please follow these instructions to alert us to the issue. Overnight outages should follow the instructions above.
- If you do not have a cell phone, you may use a landline to call the Osawatomie Police Department's non-emergency line at (913) 755-2101. A dispatcher will take your information and alert our standby team to the issue. This option should be reserved for overnight outages, or for residents without access to text messages. During a widespread outage, dispatch can become overwhelmed with non-emergency outage calls, which inadvertently takes time and resources away from those truly in need of emergency response (fire, EMS, etc.).
For widespread or prolonged outages, residents are encouraged to monitor the City of Osawatomie Facebook page or website for additional information. Staff will provide details as they become available, and will distribute updates through the official City website, social media, and to those subscribed to our "OZGENERAL" or "OZALERTS" text notifications.
