2040 Plan Draft

The Planning and Zoning Commission has been hard at work over the last several months preparing the foundations of the City's first ever comprehensive plan. Now we're ready to hear from you!

Throughout early June 2024, City of Osawatomie officials will be putting out draft versions of each chapter that constitutes Comprehensive Plan 2040. Each chapter's release will also include the previous chapter(s) for continuity and convenience of review. A daily survey will debut with each chapter so feedback can be targeted in manageable sections. These surveys will be important as the community begins to finalize (which means both adding and subtracting material) from the document. A comprehensive plan is a "living document" made up of the dreams, wishes and concerns of the community -- surveys and engagement help us determine what those dreams, wishes, and concerns are!

IN-PERSON LISTENING SESSIONS

Come join us in person on June 13th, June 27th, and/or July 11th as we work on the City of Osawatomie’s Comprehensive Plan 2040. You don’t need to be a planning expert to share what you would like your community to look like in the future! These casual, come-and-go workshops will be held at City Center (545 Main Street) from 12:00 pm to 8:00pm. Members of City staff and our consultant team will be on hand to help explain maps, review survey results, answer questions, and record resident ideas or concerns. Stop by for a minute or stay for an hour!

The workshop will ask visitors to explore these questions:

  • What is a comprehensive plan and why have it?
  • How should we tap into our community’s history?
  • Where should homes and commercial areas be in our town?
  • How big should we get as a community – to where should our boundaries expand?
  • What are the economics of Osawatomie?

Take time to engage with others in the community on topics and ideas that will carry Osawatomie well beyond 2040 and even into the 22nd century. Add us to your summer calendar -- we greatly look forward to seeing you there!

ONLINE ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

  • Where Will We Grow? | Map and Survey Exercise
    • Open both the interactive map (CLICK HERE for the map) and related survey (CLICK HERE for the survey) in your preferred browser. Using the map's interactive features, explore and complete the survey. These results will impact how Chapter Five of our Comprehensive Plan 2040 develops and finalizes.
    • This exercise asks you to look at the cities you see as you drive US-169, as well as the county roads of Miami County. Imagine you're building an Osawatomie of the future and consider where you believe different types of development belong. The potential land use types offered are what we believe are the likely development outcomes for Osawatomie. We will overlay the responses with the future costs for these types of development patterns to occur to get the dollar cost for each Priority Area.
