Osawatomie Water Plant Project
For more than 80 years, Osawatomie’s families and businesses have relied on the same water treatment plant. Built in 1939, the plant has worked well beyond its expected lifespan. But today, the system is showing its age: equipment is failing, federal water regulations are tightening, and our underground waterlines are deteriorating.
Over the past few years, the City has studied every option for how to secure Osawatomie’s water supply for generations to come. After careful review with engineers, financial experts, and a committee of residents, the City Council made the decision to build a new water treatment plant and pursue federal funding for both treatment and distribution upgrades.
We know this decision raises questions, and it should. That’s why we created this 4-part series: to walk through the facts in short, clear pieces so you can see how we got here and what comes next.

Each part tells one piece of the story and, together, they explain why this investment is the best choice for Osawatomie’s future.
