Clearing the Path - Sidewalk Connection & Cost-Share Program

Announcing New Sidewalk Investments

As part of Clearing the Path, the City is launching two new sidewalk programs aimed at strengthening local connections and encouraging community participation in mobility improvements. These efforts reinforce Osawatomie’s commitment to walkability, equity, and long-term infrastructure investment. These sidewalk programs reflect key community feedback from both PSP Phase I and II community engagement sessions.

Sidewalk Connection Improvement Program

This program will identify and close gaps in the existing sidewalk network, especially in areas with high foot traffic like school zones, parks, and key commercial corridors. Priority will be given to routes that connect neighborhoods to larger projects like shared-use paths and pedestrian bridges. This approach aligns closely with recommendations from PSP Phase II, which emphasized the need to fill sidewalk gaps and create continuous routes across neighborhoods and major destinations.

Sidewalk Cost-Share Program

To help property owners maintain or build new sidewalks, the City will introduce a cost-share initiative. Under this program, the City will partner with residents and business owners to fund eligible sidewalk improvements on private property that support public connectivity goals.

More information about how to apply, project eligibility, and reimbursement options will be available soon.
