Both Osawatomie City Lake and Beaver Lake are part of the Community Fisheries Assistance Program, which was designed to:

  • Remove barriers to fishing access
  • Provide family-friendly fishing areas close to where people live

Using funds from excise taxes on fishing equipment via the Sport Fish Restoration program, the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism recently began offering to replace past yearly revenues to community lakes which had been charging access fees to anglers.

In return, participating lakes are waiving any access fees previously charged to anglers to fish from the shore or a boat. Only a Kansas fishing permit is required to fish in Osawatomie City Lake.
