The City of Osawatomie Launches Free Curbside Yard Waste Pick-Up Program

The City of Osawatomie Public Works Department offers free curbside yard waste collection twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, to help residents with seasonal yard clean-up. This service is available to residential customers inside city limits and is separate from regular trash collection.

Registration is required to participate, and limits apply to the size and quantity of yard waste set out for pick-up. The 2026 spring collection week will be the week of April 20th, 2026. 

During the collection week, crews will work through the city by ward on the following schedule:

How to Participate

Step 1 — Register in Advance

Registration is required. Only registered addresses will be collected. To sign up:

  1. Visit: https://forms.gle/jGSvJ58iH9CpUzpt5
  2. Complete the yard waste pick-up registration form.
  3. Submit your registration by April 13th, 2026

Step 2 — Prepare and Set Out Your Yard Waste

Place your materials at the curb by 7:00 AM on collection day. Keep the following in mind:

  • Curbside only; crews will not collect from alleys.
  • Keep materials at least 3 feet away from trash carts, mailboxes, and vehicles. Do not place yard waste where a car is parked. Crews will not be able to access for pick-up.
  • Do not block sidewalks, neighbors driveways, or streets.

What's Accepted

Bagged Yard Waste

  • Bagged grass clippings, leaves, and small plant trimmings
  • Must be in compostable paper yard waste bags only
  • Bags must weigh less than 40 lbs each
  • Limit: up to 10 bags per household per event

Bundled Limbs & Brush

  • Limbs less than 4 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length
  • Must be securely tied with string or twine. No wire or plastic ties
  • Bundles must weigh less than 40 lbs each
  • Limit: up to 5 bundles per household per event

What's Not Accepted

The following items will not be collected. Materials set out improperly will be left with a tag explaining why.

  • Sod, soil, dirt, or landscaping rock
  • Treated lumber (posts, timbers, pallets, etc.)
  • Metal, plastic, or other non-biodegradable materials of any kind
  • Storm debris (handled separately as needed)

Forestry Disposal Site

For yard waste that doesn't qualify for curbside collection, such as limbs or brush larger than 4 inches in diameter or 4 feet in length, residents may use the free Forestry Disposal Site.

  • Location: East of the water plant, behind John Brown Memorial Park
  • Hours: Thursday–Sunday, 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM (or sundown, whichever is earlier)
  • Cost: FREE

Important Notes

  • This program is for residential customers only. No yard waste from businesses, contractors, or out-of-town will be picked up.
  • Missed collections due to late set-out or improper preparation will not be rescheduled.
