Temporary Intersection Closure (Updated)
Updated Post | September 12, 2024
The intersection of 6th Street and Main Street will remain open to east/west traffic through Thursday, September 12, 2024. Beginning Friday, after the morning commute, the entire intersection will be closed to all traffic for a water line adjustment. Contractors plan to have the intersection back open by the end of the work day, but if there are delays the plan will be to open the intersection on Saturday morning for weekend traffic.
On Monday, September 16, 2024, the Main Street intersection will again be closed to east/west traffic after morning commute to complete the storm sewer connections. This will be the same closure as experienced Wednesday; traffic from the east can turn south onto Main Street to access Brown Avenue and surrounding businesses, but traffic from the west will need to utilize an alternate route.
Additionally on Monday, weather permitting, concrete work will begin on the northbound lane between Brown Avenue and Kelly Avenue . While concrete work is performed, 6th Street will be closed to all traffic from the south side of the Brown Avenue intersection to the north side of the Kelly Avenue intersection. The intersection of 6th Street and Chestnut Avenue will be fully closed for approximately 10 days after concrete is poured. Once that concrete is set, both the Chestnut Ave. and Pacific Ave. intersections will be opened, and the Walnut Avenue intersection will be closed to be concreted. It will remain closed for the following 10 days. City officials will provide additional notices of these intersection closures as progress is made and dates for work are defined.
Officials are looking forward to this phase of the 6th Street total reconstruction project being completed and reopening both driving lanes between Brown and Kelly in just a few short weeks.

City of Osawatomie Public Works officials have announced a temporary closure for the intersection of 6th Street and Main Street as part of the ongoing 6th Street reconstruction project.
Crews closed the intersection of 6th and Main Streets today (September 11, 2024) following the morning commute so contractors could begin installing storm sewer across the intersection. Due to the amount of utilities in the area, multiple crews are on-site to assist and provide a safer work zone. Contractors plan to reopen the intersection to east/west traffic by the end of day, though reopening could be delayed by one day (if necessary) to complete the install.
Nearby businesses, such as the banks, are still accessible but may require customers utilize an alternative or side entrance if construction is blocking the primary approach.
Please remember to slow down to the posted 15mph while navigating 6th Street during this construction project and obey all other posted traffic signs.
