Osawatomie Public Library Receives Youth Financial Grant

Thinking Money for Kids Program Coming Spring 2024
Osawatomie Public Library

Young people will have the opportunity to learn about financial topics — like earning, saving, spending, sharing and budgeting — in a way that is both meaningful and fun through a new Osawatomie Public Library offering. Starting this spring, visit the library for in-person kids’ programs or take home a tablet loaded with fun games, offered through the Thinking Money for Kids program.

Osawatomie Public Library has been selected to receive a Thinking Money for Kids Program Kit from the American Library Association (ALA) and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. The Program Kit is a collection of expertly vetted resources to help libraries teach financial education concepts for children ages 3 to 12, both in the library and in children’s homes.

Selected through a national application process, OPL is one of 300 libraries to receive this unique offering.

“We are so excited to bring the Thinking Money for Kids Program Kit to Osawatomie,” said Library Director Morgan Menefee. “We can’t wait to welcome families to the library who are looking to check-out a Playaway Launchpad tablet as part of this program. These brand-new tablets are pre-loaded with super fun financial education games. And stay tuned for some creative financial education games for kids to play at the library during the coming months!”

Playaway Launchpads are kid-friendly tablets designed to continue learning at home, available to check out for two weeks at a time. The Launchpads don’t require a home internet connection and will be available for checkout at Osawatomie Public Library in mid-February. Games that are pre-loaded on the Launchpads also have corresponding physical games in the library including Pet Cents, Making Mooo-lah, Currency Conga and Penny Pinchers’ Party.
