Main Street Closure Scheduled for Storm Sewer Replacement

Work Planned Week of September 8th, 2025
Road Work Update

Starting Monday, September 8, 2025, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the City of Osawatomie Public Works Department will close Main Street between Brown Circle Drive and 14th Street to through traffic in order to replace a series of failing storm sewer pipes. The closure is expected to last through the end of the day Friday, September 12, 2025, weather permitting.

The project addresses two corrugated metal culverts that have been identified as structurally failing beneath Main Street. These culverts are a key part of the area’s stormwater system, and their deterioration has caused portions of the roadway to sag. To ensure roadway safety and reliable drainage, the City Council approved replacing the culverts with a concrete box culvert during their May 15, 2025, meeting.

Work will also include relocating a nearby waterline to allow for the new installation. The project requires a full closure of the section of Main Street noted above, though residents with driveways between Brown Circle Drive and 14th Street will still have access from either the west or the east side of the closure by traveling between the barricades indicated in orange on the map below. No traffic will be able to cross between the barricades shown in red.

The City thanks residents and drivers for their patience during this important improvement.
