6th Street Reconstruction Updates

Public Works Officials Announce Construction Plans for November and December
Road Work Update

Starting on November 21, 2024, the Parker Ave and 6th Street intersection will reopen, restoring northbound and southbound access from Parker Ave to the Derrick Jensen Overpass. On the same day, however, the Lincoln Ave connection to 6th St will close as crews begin the final phase of its reconstruction. Concrete work for the remainder of this intersection is planned for November 25 and 26, 2024. Westbound travelers are encouraged to use Parker Ave to access the Derrick Jensen Overpass while Lincoln Ave is closed.

As part of the project's next steps, the Main St intersection will close on November 25, 2024, to allow for pavement removal and concrete replacement. This essential work is scheduled to conclude with a concrete pour on November 27, 2024, weather permitting. If strength tests confirm the intersection’s readiness, it is expected to reopen on December 2, 2024. Meanwhile, the Brown Ave intersection will reopen on November 25, 2024, reconnecting north-south traffic from Brown Ave to Kelly Ave. Once the Main Street intersection has been completed and reopened, that will mark a major milestone in the project and conclude the street reconstruction portion of the project!

Beyond these intersection improvements, crews will be working diligently on sidewalks, curbs, and gutters throughout the area. This phase of construction is expected to continue for the next three to four weeks, as weather permits and may cause traffic delays throughout the corridor. We would also like to remind all residents to respect construction barriers, cones, and signs, especially near freshly poured concrete. While it may look dry, concrete requires proper curing time to ensure long-term durability and performance.
