6th Street, Pacific Avenue Intersection Closing for Construction

City of Osawatomie Public Works officials have announced the upcoming partial closure of the intersection at 6th Street and Pacific Avenue as construction moves into the area. While contractors perform stormwater work in the intersection, only southbound traffic will be allowed through beginning Monday, June 3rd, 2024. Crossing east/west at 6th and Pacific will not be permitted for the duration of the work, which is expected to last through the end of the week. Traffic needing to travel east or west must utilize alternative routes, such as Brown Avenue or Walnut Avenue.
As part of the total reconstruction of the corridor, the intersection is slated for complete demolition to make way for increased stormwater capacity and major improvements to crossings, pavement, and grade. Stormwater improvements and other utility relocations are underway ahead of the road construction teams who are working on the road's new base and concrete infrastructure.
As a reminder, northbound traffic is currently not permitted on 6th Street between Kelly Avenue and Brown Avenue due to large areas of active construction. Southbound traffic is permitted for the length of the corridor and traffic speeds are reduced to 15mph in the construction zone.
