Utility Work to Close 6th and Main Intersection

Road Closure Notice

Another round of necessary utility work will close the intersection of 6th Street and Main Street beginning Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024, announced Terry Upshaw, Director of Utilities for the City of Osawatomie. This closure is weather permitting, and will allow contractors to continue the waterline relocation in and around the intersection's right-of-ways. Barricades and other signage will be placed on Main Street from 5th Street to 7th Street and on 6th Street from Parker Avenue to Brown Avenue to help direct motorists. The closure is expected to last through the week depending on weather.

Contractors have been working the length of 6th Street for several weeks as the long-awaited total reconstruction of the corridor gets underway. More information on the 6th Street Reconstruction plan can be found here. Before road bed reconstruction and new design elements can be implemented, however, utility relocations and replacements must be completed to remove old utility lines from underneath the existing roadway. Lines, such as water mains, are being replaced with new infrastructure and are being moved underneath sidewalks or other public right-of-ways to mitigate damage to the new road when lines require future maintenance.
