water work ahead

Update | Friday, April 19, 2024

Additional temporary water shut-offs are planned for Monday, April 22nd, 2024, weather permitting, as contractor I- Solutions begins an additional segment of water main tie-ins near 6th and Carr Avenue. These tie-ins connect neighborhood water service lines to the newly replaced and relocated water main along 6th Street. Crews will begin the tie-in work at approximately 12:00pm, and it's anticipated that this shut-off will last three (3) to four (4) hours. Impacted areas (shown on the map below) will have no water or low water pressure while work is being performed.

Starting Thursday, April 18th, 2024 (weather permitting), contractors will begin necessary work to complete connections to the new water main along 6th Street in the area of Main Street and Brown Ave. Temporary water shut-offs will be required throughout the area. Beginning in the morning on Thursday, water shut-offs will impact the 500 and 600 blocks of Main Street and will last approximately four (4) hours. Starting at 3:30 pm on Thursday afternoon, the 400 and 500 blocks of Brown will then be impacted. This shut-off is also planned to last approximately four (4) hours. The intersection of 6th and Main will need to be closed for the majority of the day to allow space for workers to complete these connections efficiently and safely, but crews plan to reopen it in the evening.

In Case You Missed It

As part of the total redesign and reconstruction of 6th Street from Lincoln Avenue to Kelly Avenue, utility connections and service lines are being replaced and relocated throughout the corridor. This work is being performed ahead of the actual road construction. Contractors and City staff members are removing existing lines, such as water mains, out of the road bed and relocating new lines in the public right-of-way underneath berms and sidewalks. This relocation mitigates the need to cut into the road when utility lines need maintenance in the future. As the main lines are moved and replaced, individual services also need to be reconnected between the main and homes or businesses along the corridor. This work often requires that service to nearby neighborhoods be interrupted while final connections are made. These interruptions normally take just a few hours and are usually completed in one day while most residents are away from their homes. Larger projects or unforeseen complications may require extended interruptions or impact additional homes or businesses.

City staff make every effort to notify those who will be impacted by service interruptions ahead of the planned work, including door-to-door notification when appropriate, TextMyGov alerts, and publishing digital notices.
