Original News Article:

As the City of Osawatomie prepares to undertake its largest street rehabilitation project in years, city staff is seeking resident feedback on the design and outcomes of the 6th Street project!

The City's Paving the Way Street Repair and Replacement Plan strives for ten years' worth of street projects in just three to five years. A major component of this plan is a complete reconstruction of 6th Street from Kelly Ave to Lincoln Ave. The City's engineering consultant, BG Consultants, has already begun work on the design for 6th Street; you may have noticed them walking and driving the corridor marking utility lines or measuring distances. As the design process continues to move toward the summer construction kickoff, we want to hear from Osawatomie residents (and particularly those residents who live along 6th Street and business owners in the corridor) on their priorities and vision for a new 6th Street. The plan is currently broken into three segments and includes elements geared toward improving safety of both vehicular traffic and bicycle/pedestrian traffic. The preference survey dives further into the proposed enhancements along the corridor, including the addition of greenspace, bicycle lanes, and other improvements.

Survey responses will be gathered by City staff and reviewed with our engineering consultants as we continue to narrow down final design elements. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to continuing to involve our residents and neighborhoods in these critical infrastructure improvements. The survey will be open and collecting responses until February 28th, 2023. Respondents who fully complete the survey and provide their information are entered for a chance to win $50 in Chamber Bucks.
