Large Water Leak Identified, Repair in Progress

Water Leak Notice

Update | February 13, 2024 - 4:03pm : Utilities Director Terry Upshaw has assessed the repair and determined it is complete; all water services should be returned to normal at this time. Residents may need to allow taps or faucets to run for a minute or two to clear excess air from their lines. Faucets fitted with aerators (such as bathroom sinks) may need to have the screen removed and rinsed to avoid natural sediment buildup.

Update | February 13, 2024 - 10:28am : The complexity of the line's rupture has required Utility Department crewmembers to close service valves that impact Osawatomie Middle School. USD #367 officials have been notified of this impact. Crews are still unable to estimate length of repair at this time due to the volume of water surrounding the faulty line.

City of Osawatomie Utility crews have identified a large water leak on an 8" water main along 6th Street. Construction work in close proximity to the line caused a rupture. Crews have closed water service valves in the area to reduce water flow and allow technicians better access. Residents and businesses nearby (primarily in the south/southeast portion of the community) will experience lower than normal water pressure, or no water at all, while crews are on scene repairing the leak.

At this time, crews are not able to estimate length of repair. This post will be updated as our technicians gain new information on the scope of the repair.
