Join us for the annual Freedom Festival in John Brown Memorial Park as part of the "Signature Event Series" sponsored by the City of Osawatomie!

This fun, family-friendly, and FREE event takes place each year inside John Brown Memorial Park and features a variety of Civil War-era performances, tours, special lectures, and other immersive activities to transport people of all ages back to the beginning of our community.

The lineup for 2023 includes:

Saturday, September 16th, 2023

  • 10:00 am
    • Opening Flag Ceremony (Reenactors, American Legion Honor Guard, American Legion Riders, Osawatomie Boy Scout Troop 106)
    • Special Tours of Adair Cabin with Mary Buster, Great-Great Granddaughter of Samuel and Florella Adair (Until 5:00 pm)
  • 10:30 am
    • Artillery Demonstration with Cannon Fire
  • 11:00 am
    • Battle of New Georgia with Cannon Fire
  • 11:30 am
    • President Abraham Lincoln performed by Steve Burns
  • 12:15 pm
    • Crooked River Posse: Bleeding Kansas Cabin Scene Reenactment
  • 1:00 pm
    • "Spirit of the Sword" performed by Magpie
  • 3:15 pm
    • "John Brown Speaks" performed by Kerry Altenbernd
