Scam Alert - Be Aware of Fraud Calls

Fraudulent Calls On the Rise
Scam Alert

City of Osawatomie utility staff received notice from a resident of a fraud phone call attempt regarding utility billing today, April 24th, 2024. The number reported can appear as a legitimate Kansas-based, semi-governmental number when searched online -- though convincing at first glance, this is NOT an official number or service of the State of Kansas or the City of Osawatomie!

City officials would like to remind residents that our staff will never call with an offer to discount utility bills because of current or on-time payment status. In addition, it is not our policy to call to collect past-due utility bills, and will never call to collect a payment to avoid shut-off of utility services. If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be working on behalf of the City of Osawatomie regarding utility billing, please hang up the phone and do not provide them with any personal information. To help us track down these fraud attempts, please also consider reporting the call to the Osawatomie Police Department.
