Activities and Programs
Programs and activities are designed for certain age groups and skill levels. Each event in our calendar is tagged with the recommended age group:
- Pre-K Best for babies and toddlers up to age 5. Pre-k patrons must always be accompanied by a parent or guardian aged 16 or older.
- Juniors Best for elementary aged children between ages 6 to 11. Juniors can attend junior library events without a parent or guardian, but must otherwise have a guardian aged 16 or older.
- Teens Best for kids aged 12 and older. Teens do not need a parent or guardian to use the library.
- Youth These are open events for all youth patrons.
- Family Best enjoyed by the whole family! We encourage parents and guardians to actively participate and have fun with us and the kids.
- Adults Best enjoyed by adults. Children are not permitted at adults-only events.
- All Ages These events are best enjoyed by the whole community, regardless of age!
Summer events are always free, but registration may be required so we can prepare adequate supplies. Please keep an eye out for any RSVPs noted on our calendar! Register online or by calling us at (913) 755-2136.
Tuesday, May 26th
- Registration Opens for All Ages, Online and In Person!
- Parent / Family Information Session #1 at 11:00am
- Information Sessions are the perfect opportunity to learn about Summer Reading, ask questions or register for upcoming activities, and make sure you and your family members are ready with library cards!

- Science Heroes are bringing together magic and science for another great summer show. Parents/guardians may bring a folding lawn chair if desired.

- Family | Archeological Dig Site at 11:00am
- Grab your sunscreen and gardening gloves and join us for a hands-in-the-dirt archeological dig! Learn about archeology and hunt for buried treasures. Keep what you find!

- Life, uh... finds a way. And we’re going to find all the nests we can and learn about different dinosaurs along the way!
- Teens | Late Night at the Library at 6:00pm
- The teens will be taking over the library, enjoying a movie or two, and eating their weight in pepperoni pizza (or cheese... we don’t judge).

- Our friend Randy is back with another performance celebrating music, learning, and the joys of summer at the library! Parents/guardians may bring a folding lawn chair if desired.

- Today’s the day – it’s the last day of summer reading! Make sure you get your reading logs turned in before we close at 2:00pm. Enjoy snacks and other refreshments, celebrate with staff, and tell us all about your favorite moments from Summer Reading 2026.
