Summer Reading 2025
Welcome to Summer Reading 2025!
The national 2025 Summer Reading theme is “Color Our World,” and we couldn’t be more excited! Libraries are encouraged to take the national theme and put their own creative spin on it to best serve their patrons and communities, and we jumped headfirst into planning the most colorful, artsy, hands-on summer ever. This year’s calendar explores a new art medium every week, from paint to cinema to storytelling. Patrons will have the opportunity to get their hands messy with crafts and DIY projects, learn from professionals and special guests, and explore the colorful world around us – all for FREE, thanks to a generous grant award from the Allen W. and Gladys Hawkins Charitable Foundation.
How to Participate
For Youth Patrons (Aged 0 - 17)
Our Youth Summer Reading program calendar is full of structured weekly activities for kids of all ages. ALL of our youth events are FREE, but some may require preregistration due to limited supplies or seating capacity. For events that require it, registrations can be made over the phone (913-755-2136) or in-person at the main circulation desk. Please pay special attention to any program notes -- this will be a wild and wacky summer, and some activities will require play clothes or encourage extra adult supervision for younger patrons. As a general reminder on library policy, children under age eight must be accompanied by a responsible guardian aged 15 or older.

In addition to our in-person programming, youth patrons also are encouraged to READ, READ, READ all summer long! Kids who log their reading habits and completed books will be eligible to win additional prizes throughout the summer.
For kids and families with busy calendars, the Youth Services Department will also be hosting weekly "self-directed activities" so kids are welcome to pop-in at any time to participate in that week's themed activity and earn raffle tickets toward prizes.
For Adult Patrons (Aged 18+)
Our Adult Summer Reading program calendar includes adults-only craft nights, social activities, and another interactive BINGO card to rack up raffle tickets. Simply pick up a paper copy the next time you visit the circulation desk or download a copy from our website and keep track of your BINGO wins at home! Each BINGO (horizontal, vertical, and diagonal) is worth five (5) raffle tickets, and completing a total blackout gains you an additional 20 (!) tickets!
