The 2nd Annual Tornado Alley Rally Soap Box Derby is rocketing down Main Street this weekend! Here’s what you need to know…
ROAD CLOSED: The roads highlighted on the attached map will be closed from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday (4/24) and again on Sunday (4/25) from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Along with these temporary closures, there will also be NO PARKING on Main Street or on 10th Street from Main to Pacific. Any vehicles left within these areas will be towed, so please make plans accordingly. Residents in the affected areas have received a letter in the mail, door knocker, or other contact prior to this posting.
FRIDAY (4/23) from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. a small segment of Main Street, just west of the park entrance, will be closed in order to set up the finish line.
The Tornado Alley Rally has an incredible 31 out-of-state kids registered, some of whom will be traveling from as far as Oregon, Kentucky, Colorado, Iowa and Missouri. In addition, 11 kids from Osawatomie, Parker, Paola & Edgerton are participating in the fun as well! All of them are EXTREMELY excited to show off their skills, so let’s show these racers what a wonderful and welcoming place Osawatomie is!
We’re thrilled to see that the OHS Singers will open the event with the National Anthem, followed by our Mayor and Chief of Police being the first ones down the hill! The Band of Oz will also be playing in the morning to set the mood for a day of fun.
Feeling hungry? Bull Creek BBQ will be set up on Saturday beginning at 11:00am and Carolyn’s Kitchen is on deck for Sunday breakfast and lunch. The Knights of Columbus will also be selling funnel cakes both days! All trucks will be parked near Memorial Hall.
THANK YOU for your support of these racers and this event; our community was blessed by this extremely unique opportunity and we are the ONLY city in the state of Kansas to have a Soap Box Race!
