City Qualifies for State Loan

The City of Osawatomie applied and was granted a $700,000 loan from the State Treasurer's newly introduced "City Utility Low Interest Loan Program." This loan program was born out of statewide necessity for utility relief after massive spike bills arrived for cities with municipal utilities following the record-breaking cold snap in mid-February. According to the latest Treasurer's update, 53 Kansas municipalities have applied for nearly $70,000,000 in emergency loan funds to cover either

their electric or natural gas utility bills. As you may have seen across regional and national headlines, utility costs skyrocketed as supply and demand teetered out of balance during the severe weather, with rate spikes affecting over a dozen states and tens of millions of Americans.

City Manager Mike Scanlon is back with another installation of our new City Manager Report video series. This week he talks about the COVID-19 vaccine and ways to get signed up through the Health Department. Next week's report will jump back to talking about our electric utility. Check it out!
