Firefighting equipmentOverview
The fire department is equipped to respond to most common types of fires including structural, vehicle, grass / brush, etc. In addition, the department has the ability to deliver foam to other types of fires.

They also have a set of vehicle extrication tools, the “Jaws of Life”, including spreaders, cutters, and a ram, all hydraulically-operated. The department also has additional rescue equipment including airbags, air chisel, cordless construction tools, and assorted hand tools. 

City Equipment
The city operates two fire engines: 
  • 1991 Pierce (Engine 421)
  • 1995 smeal on loan from Miami County Rural Fire District #1

They are both set up for basic firefighting operations. The city also owns much of the water rescue equipment including a boat, swiftwater equipment, and ice rescue gear.

Rural Equipment
Miami County Rural Fire District #2 maintains several pieces of equipment at the Osawatomie station. The equipment includes:
  • One engine, a 2009 Pierce Contender CAFS Truck (Engine 423) set up for basic firefighting in the rural area including the ability to draft from portable tanks
  • A water pumper / tender (Tender 424) capable of delivering 2,000 gallons of water to a fire scene. While primarily a water tender, the truck can function as a back-up pumper, if needed.
  • Three grass units, a 1999 Ford 4WD (Unit 426) and a 1999 GMC (Unit 427), both carrying high-pressure, low-volume pumps for fighting grass and brush fires.
  • Rescue 1 is a 1999 Superior truck equipped with rescue equipment including vehicle extrication tools, hand tools, power saws, air tools, air bags, medical equipment, generator, and other essential equipment
  • The chief’s 2005 Ford Explorer which carrying a host of incident command equipment and related materials.
