Fire Department
Osawatomie Volunteer Fire Department
The Osawatomie Volunteer Fire Department services approximately 100 square miles of territory. The department strives to improve the equipment, training, and abilities so that the citizens it serves will have the highest level of protection possible.

The department actually represents both the City of Osawatomie and Miami County Rural Fire District #1. The city funds equipment and personnel for city calls and the rural fire district funds equipment and personnel for rural incidents. The fire department averages 175 calls for service a year.

First Responder
The OZFD is a primary responder to all fire incidents in or district and have mutual aid agreements with other agencies to provide any additional resources that may be required.

Water Rescue
The OZFD is also the home of Miami County Water Rescue. A joint effort between the City of Osawatomie and Miami County Rural Fire District #1. It provides surface rescue as well as scuba rescue and recovery ability.
